Leaves swirl and flutter,
Softly landing to be crushed
By constant chatter and fast shoes.
We must get to the destination,
We must have the conversation,
Same as any other place we’ve been in.
We miss the squirrel with the fruit,
Scare the woodpecker to a farther tree.
We run and sparrows dart away,
Finches take flight, chipmunks duck away.
We bring predators on their leads,
Letting them hunt and chase rabbits.
No wonder no one wants to be around us.
We go to Nature and take Nature away.
Better to walk on cement and sidewalks.
At least we only disturb ourselves.
