Pain radiates from my side

And my breaths are shallow

Trying not the stretch

The inflamed muscles.

I awoke to both

Sides on fire.

It hurts to inhale

As I stiffly walk

To the kitchen.

I’m sitting on the couch,

The heating pad

Radiating warmth

Into my twisted spine.

This has come on quickly,

Within a few days.

I wince as the nerves twinge,

Sending shockwaves to my brain.

I inhale and feel the soreness,

The knots of my muscles.

I try deeply again

And shift the pad to the left.

And so I breathe,

In pain and torment,

Writing out the flames.
