Migraine

In another world my head

Wouldn’t be throbbing at the temples

My stomach would be settled

And my nose would be clear

I lie on the couch in desperation

Trying to sleep off the pain

Only to be awakened by the light

Piercing into my eyeballs

I had medication for this

But I haven’t had one for so long

So it expired and i can’t

Get another prescription soon

I could curse my body for this

But it’s not its fault at all

It’s just another reaction

That I’m unprepared for

So I pull the curtains closed

Find a quiet spot to ride this out

Waiting until it’s all clear again

A day spent fighting a migraine

And trying not to feel defeated
